 COD TRIP

November 27, 2005

Ken Poudrier and Ed Buccigross with two large steaker cod caught aboard RELENTLESS.

On Sunday November 27th, we had aboard repeat customer Ed Buccigross from Abington along with his father and three friends. Ed is an avid fisherman who recently returned from marlin and tuna fishing from Cabo San Lucas. Ed knows how to pick a day as his last trip had seas like a mirror with good fishing. On this date, the group got into fish close to 40 lbs with many in the 20 lb class providing many fillets for the winter.

 COD TRIP

November 26, 2005

Brendan Richards of the Rhode Island Saltwater Angler's Assoc holds a nice steaker cod which could not resist a jig.

On Saturday, November 26th, Jack Richards and his son Brendan chartered the boat again, this time alone. They had a decent pick of cod landing some large steakers in the 30 lb + range giving them more fillets for the winter. We headed offshore later in the day only to be hammered by the dogfish. Brendan fishes as hard as anyone I know and did a great job bringing fish to gaff. He knows what to do and you can tell he enjoys it. Seeing Brendan and Jack together joking and fishing helps bring it back to reality and reminds yourself what the charter business is all about. It was a pleasure having them aboard two weeks in a row.

Robert Young of Rhode Island with a cod caught on board the RELENTLESS.

On Sunday, November 20th, the weatherman lied, lied, lied as the Steve Segerson party stepped aboard. The fish did not cooperate however we did manage a few decent fish for the efforts of these gentleman who worked the jigs all day long. Mike and Robert Young landed nice size cod along with Steve who managed to bring the first one of the day aboard at 25 lbs. It was tough pickings and once in a while it happens.

 COD TRIP

November 19, 2005

The Jack Richards party was all smiles after a great November day on the water.

On November 19th, Jack Richards of Narragansett, RI chartered RELENTLESS with his son Brendan and friends Karin Cahill and Dennis Olivera. On a morning with little wind we were off the dock around 5:00am and were at the cod fishing grounds by 7:00pm. It was not long before Karin hooked into a steaker cod on a jig. Curt, our mate and one of the Relentless captains, gaffed the fish and brought it aboard. Throughout the day Dennis, Jack and Brendan caught several large cod and broke a few big fish off which were most likely snagged. This was a great group that fished hard and ended up with plenty of fillets by the end of the day.

 COD TRIPS

November 2005

Dave Gray of Whitonsville, MA landed this steaker
caught on a jig

The crew of RELENTLESS has been busy fishing for cod in Massachusetts Bay and the surrounding waters. On Saturday the 5th of November, the Al Cheskey crew of Marlborough, CT caught good numbers of large cod and pollock which were slamming jigs. Al wanted his wolffish and put one in the box as he promised putting all of the critics in their place. This group of anglers who fished with us in the spring had a great day and went home with plenty of fillets for the day.

Mark Kuras prodly displays one of his cod fish caught
during the day aboard the RELENTLESS

On Sunday, the Bill Swensen party of Exeter, RI fished aboard RELENTLESS. We were excited about the previous day's fishing and felt a good day coming on. Unfortunately, the day was very disappointing as the fish developed lock jaw and would not hit anything. We searched other areas and the results were not very positive with an east wind blowing. The numbers were low and the crew was a great group of guys who appreciated the fact we kept moving, trying other spots in the ocean. Unfortunately that can be fishing and thank god it is not to often. On both of these trips, we did not bring the camera and I promised myself I would have it in my pocket the next trip.

Mark Kuras and his father in law Norman Thibodeau
enjoyed the day together fishing aboard Relentless

Repeat customer Mike Parrella and his crew from the Staatsburgh, NY area joined us again for some great fishing on Saturday, Nov. 12th. Leaving the dock early and arriving after a choppy ride this group of anglers landed good numbers of cod providing each of them with plenty of fillets. Most of the fish were 15-20 LBS with some in the high 30 LB class. Mike, his brother Steve and the rest of the crew are true outdoorsmen who love to hunt and fish. The venison sticks and sausage they bring aboard each year are a delicacy being the best I have ever had. Mike is already planning on another trip for the spring and as always we look forward to seeing this party on board again next year.

Wayne Joyce of Weare, MA holds a nice cod caught
aboard RELENTLESS

On Sunday things slowed down a bit, but even though the numbers were down, the fish landed were large providing plenty of fillet weights for Conrad Chickinski and his crew from the Grafton, MA area. Joining Conrad was Wayne Joyce and his son Wayne, Jr., Mark Kuras and his father in law Norman Thibodeau and Dave Gray. This group fishes together often as Conrad runs his Blackwatch out of Point Judith, RI targeting sharks, stripers, tautog and tuna. Wayne, Jr had the largest fish of the day which was 40 LBS and most of the fish were in the 20 LB class.

STRIPED BASS TRIP

July 21, 2005

Meagen smiles after landing the first fish of the
morning aboard RELENTLESS.

The crew of the RELENTLESS has had a busy week of fishing for cod and haddock along with striped bass at Race Point. What a great week it was with light winds, warm temperatures with a sea breeze and fantastic folks aboard who loved to fish.

The mate holds Kevin's large striped bass he
managed to jig up at Race Point.

On Thursday, July 21st, Captain Dave had on board the Bill Fitzgibbons party of Norwell, MA. Joining Bill were his daughters Meagan, Colleen and his 8-year-old son Kevin. His brother-in-law Steve Mullen and his wife Julie from Norfolk also came along hoping for some striped bass action at Race Point. Steaming out of Green Harbor in Marshfield with calm seas and sunshine, the girls played cards on the way over to the Race.

Bill Fitzgibbons holds his daughter Colleen's
striped bass.

Once we arrived we immediately located the bass which were rolling on the surface gulping down sand eels. It did not take long before Colleen was yelling fish on, she expertly landed her first bass of the day which was a nice 33" fish. Bill, Meagan, Julie all landed large bass and blues throughout the day as they worked the rods.

Julie Mullen is all smiles after catching
her bass.

measuring 42 inches.

Steve had the largest fish of the day, a 42" linesider over 30 lbs which peeled wire off the reel and did not want to stop. It was a great fish and everyone was excited. The captain's highlight of the day was watching Kevin, jig up his first bass by himself holding the rod and watching him dance around the deck as the fish wanted to head north. Kevin did a great job and landed a nice 35" bright colored striped bass. When Kevin was holding his fish and having his photo taken, it reminded me of why I enjoy so much taking people fishing.

the end of a day fishing aboard RELENTLESS.

On the way home, we all enjoyed a few whale sighthings as our mate Shaun filleted the days catch, sending them home with fresh striped bass for the grill. Once again, another great group that we enjoyed having aboard.

COD HADDOCK BASS TRIPS

July 15, 16 & 17, 2005

Jerry Schaffer of Rome, NY holds a nice pollock
he caught aboard the RELENTLESS.

On Sunday, July 17th RELENTLESS had on board the Jerry Schaffer party from Rome, NY. They were in for catching some unbelievable haddock. The bite was non-stop for two hours and also in the mix were market sized codfish to 10 lbs. The tide started to run hard late in the morning making it difficult to hold bottom. The group decided they had caught enough haddock and cod and wanted to try catching some striped bass.

A nice bass landed by a member of the
Schaffer party.

Steaming to Race Point and arriving at a slack negative tide made it challenging to find feeding bass. However, persistence paid off as the group did manage fish to 35". It was a pleasure having Jerry and his group aboard and we look forward to fishing with them again in the future.

Mike Parella holds a nice codfish caught
aboard RELENTLESS.

On Saturday, July 16th, Mike Parella and his group had a great day fishing aboard RELENTLESS landing several cod and haddock once again in the deep water east of Stellwagen. His group did a great job landing cod to 35 LBS and a nice bunch of large haddock. This group of anglers from upstate New York are big time deer hunters and kept feeding the captain venison jerky and sausage throughout the afternoon. Mike was all excited landing the largest cod of the day and has inquired about another trip this coming fall.

Another nice haddock caught on a clam
on aboard RELENTLESS.

Fred Novak with a pollock which

Mike Rea with a market sized codfish.

On Friday July 15th, we had aboard repeat customer Doug Johnson and his party of six. The group managed excellent numbers of cod and haddock fishing east of Stellwagen Bank in about 240' of water using bait. Doug fished with us last year twice and is currently booked for those large cod the day after Thanksgiving. We apologize for not having any photos of the group's outing but the captain left the house without the digital camera.

School tuna have started to arrive and once again the striped bass action at Race Point is unbelievable and now is the time to get out. We still have several good dates available throughout the summer so don't delay and give us a call.

COD HADDOCK TRIP

June 25, 2005

On Saturday June 25th Captain Dave had aboard the John Winders party of Sagamore Beach, MA fishing for cod and haddock. The group did well going home with nice bags of large haddock fillets along with some cod. The haddock coming over the rail were mostly large fish and sea clams were the bait of choice. John and his party of six had a great day despite fishing through the pesky dog fish.

BASS TRIP

June 23, 2005

Charlie Maxon of Norwood, MA holds his first
striped bass of the day.

On a day with near perfect weather and no scheduled charter, Capt. Dave just had to take out RELENTLESS with mates Cut Maxon and Jerry Mulchahey for a day of striped bass fishing at Race Point. Joining us was Curt's dad Charlie and his grandson fifteen-year-old Zach Maxon who was visiting from the Orlando, FL area. Curt also invited good friend Brian Donald of Weymouth, MA. Leaving the dock at 5:00 AM and being the first boat at the Race, was the perfect recipe for a great day of fishing. Using jigs and wire line, the words "fish on" and "another fish on" were coming from the cockpit once the tide started to move around 7:30 AM. The captain landed a nice 42" fish which was topped by Brian who had one the same size at the end of the day but with a much larger girth. Zach did a great job landing several fish in the 24-32 inch range. Curt and Jerry caught their fair share also and by the end of the morning the crew of RELENTLESS had their limits of striped bass and a half dozen bluefish to bring home for friends and family. Several large bass were also released. If you are interested in great striped bass fishing now is the time. We are gearing up for shark and tuna and the cod and haddock fishing continues to produce with the use of jigs and clams.

COD TRIP

June 18, 2005

Todd Ryan of Halifax holds one of the three wolffish
caught aboard RELENTLESS during his fishing trip.

On Saturday, June 18th, Dave had on board the Jim Bartels party of Pembroke, MA. We had a fantastic day landing cod to 22 LBS, large haddock, cusk, and three large wolffish. The six anglers were a great group and inquired about another trip aboard RELENTLESS in the fall. Jim Bartels took the honors with the largest wolffish and Todd Ryan had a nice large codfish along with others in the party including Jim Bartels Jr who just graduated from high school and will seek a career as an electrician. Several large haddock were landed and mate Captain Curt filleted the catch on the way home providing the group with plenty of fillets for dinners.

June 12, 2005

On Sunday, June 12th, Dave had the Mike Aupperlee of Cotuit, MA and his party on board for a day of fishing. It was a nice surprise to see Larry Devine of Mashpee in this group of anglers. Dave and Larry served together as young men right out of high school on board the US Coast Guard Cutter Cape Cross, a 95' patrol boat moored in Gloucester, MA. It was a slow day of fishing but the group did land cod and haddock to bring home for dinners at the end of the trip. Dave and Larry had a great time talking about the old days.

COD TRIP

June 5, 2005

Jason Rice with a nice codfish caught on a clam.

You could not have picked a better day to fish aboard RELENTLESS. Light winds, calm seas and temperatures in the low 70's was what was in store for the Sandy and Vicki Howland party from Woodstock, New York. Joining them was Donny and Jason Rice along with Brian Williams all of West Hurley, NY. Fishing east of Stellwagen Bank the group managed decent numbers of cod to 20 lbs, and some very nice haddock. The fishing was fair until the afternoon tide started to run, finally getting the fish to eat. The group enjoyed their stay overnight in the area and had a very good time. Once home, they found time to place a few comments on our website guestbook. Sandy and Vicki know the area well coming to Cape Cod each July to catch striped bass and fluke off of Race Point. I found out during our trip that Vicki landed her first bass over 50 lbs while fishing near home on the Hudson River. The crew of RELENTLESS congratulates her on this impressive catch. At the end of the day the group landed enough fish for plenty of dinners and had a great experience. We look forward to their return for another day on the water and wish each and every one of them a great summer.

Another happy angler aboard RELENTLESS.

On Saturday June 4th, the Stewart Duncun party from Windsor Locks, CT fished aboard the RELENTLESS with Captain Curt Maxon and mate Jerry Mulcahy. Captain Dave was off for the day to celebrate his son Shaun's high school graduation with family and friends. The group fished off of Race Point in pea soup fog and did well picking legal size codfish through the morning. Later in the day Captain Curt headed out to the deep water to catch some nice haddock while landing some cod fish in the 20+ lb range. Photos from this charter will be posted soon. After speaking to Stew, the group hopes to come back again in September for another trip.

COD TRIP

June 3, 2005

Kevin Murray of Attleboro MA shows off one of
the many fish he landed throughout the day.

Fishing on board RELENTLESS on Friday, June 3rd was a party of six consisting of Tom Boyle (Arlington, MA), Joe Conte (Hingham, MA), Paul Dooley (Medford, MA), Kevin Murray and Doug Semple (Attleboro, MA) and Robert Pasterczyle (Westboro, MA). After an early start, we began fishing on the west side of Stellwagen Bank. Not having much luck as the draggers scratched the bottom nearby, we decided to head east. Heading about five miles to the east, the fishing was a fair pick of haddock, cod and wolfish. The tide was roaring and holding bottom with 24 oz lead sinkers was nearly impossible. Another move to the east was the ticket as the group managed several large cod with three over 20 lbs, several haddock and three wolfish for the day. On the way home, Captain Curt Maxon filleted the catch sending each patron home with plenty of fresh fish. This group of anglers did a great job in less than desirable conditions. The crew of RELENTLESS wishes them a great summer and hope to see them back aboard soon for another day of fishing.

COD TRIP

April 18, 2005

Frank Falgiano with a Steaker Cod caught on Stellwagen
Bank aboard RELENTLESS.

On Monday, April 18th, Paul Schrader of East Northport, NY on Long Island chartered the RELENTLESS for a day of cod fishing. Fishing with Paul was Cliff Goodman of Glen Cove, Bruce Rupp, Rich Derboghossian of Glen Head, Frank Falgiano of Seaford and Kevin Case of Bayport. This group of anglers included police officers and chefs from some of Long Island's most prestigious country clubs. Needless to say they packed quite a lunch of lobster salad sandwiches and fresh littlenecks with homemade cocktail sauce for the ride home. After yesterday's great day of fishing the group could hardly wait to get out to the numbers. Once there the fish showed well but refused all offerings including fresh sea clams and jigs. I gave up after two hours of frustration and steamed ten miles further offshore only to find minimal results. The crew was joking about the few fillets they would have to split having enough for sandwiches. They were very understanding, as this is the nature of fishing and days like this can happen.

After a discussion with Captain Stan Glaskin, our mate for the day, we headed back to our original starting point. Once there all the guys were tight within minutes and the next two hours was nonstop action with the fish averaging 15 lbs. Paul managed to land a nice steaker weighing 32 LBS and Frank topped that with two fish over 35 LBS each. By the end of the day we limited out on very large cod and Stanley filleted them like a pro. Believe it or not, this party of six filled a fish tote with fillets providing enough fish for several meals.

Paul and his crew booked the RELENTLESS for another day of Stellwagen Bank Cod fishing this coming fall. Thanks guys for the great day and we look forward to fishing with you again. Frank and Rich are both invited back but please leave those Damn Yankees hats home next fall as our Sox battle you again in the playoffs.

COD TRIP

April 17, 2005

Steve Bowen with 42 LB cod caught aboard RELENTLESS.

Steve Bowen from Falmouth, MA along with his brothers John and Tim and their close friend Tom Hickey chartered RELENTLESS for a day of cod fishing. We met in Marshfield at the Green Harbor town pier and were headed offshore by 5:00 AM. With light winds and a 3 to 5 foot gentle swell, the group settled in to watch the sun rise over the horizon. We arrived on the fishing grounds at slack tide but the bite was a little slow with mostly legal size haddock being caught on fresh sea clams. After a couple of moves and a change in the tide things finally took off.

The next three hours was steady action with the group limiting out on medium and steaker cod being taken on both jigs and bait. The highlight of the day was when Steve's rod bent over with a large fish on the other end hitting his teaser. Once the fish came to the surface Captain Dave sunk the gaff deep into a 42 LB beast with a 15 LB fish trailing behind it on the jig.

On the way home, Curt Maxon used his culinary skills, filleting the bunch of fish and providing all of the anglers, friends and family plenty of fillets for dinners.

If you would like to get out on some of this action, please drop us an e-mail.

COD TRIPS

April 9 & 10, 2005

Fishing onboard RELENTLESS out of Green Harbor on Saturday April 9th was the Ed Buccigross party from Abington, MA. Ed met us at the dock at 5:00 AM with a minus tide only to find out the trip was going to be delayed until 8:00 AM due to an obstruction in the middle of the narrow channel. Ed was given the opportunity to pick another date or go to breakfast. After discussing it with his three friends. They decided they came to fish and would be back after breakfast. We squeezed by the rock in the middle of the channel and headed east of Stellwagen Bank. Arriving at our destination we joined a fleet of cod boats already working the grounds. It was not long before the sounds of "fish on" were heard and a beautiful silver haddock came over the rail.

The seas were calm and Ed, Keith Totten, Pat O'Rourke and his Dad PK landed several fish throughout the day including about 28 keeper cod and haddock. The cod were in the 6-10 LB range and haddock were of good size. The pick was slow but these guys worked hard with all of the fish being landed on fresh sea clams yielding plenty of fillets for them to bring home.

On Sunday, we got off the dock on time at 4:30am with the Tim Cronin party from Hudson, MA. With flat calm, summer like conditions, the party enjoyed a magnificent sunrise as we made our way across the bay. Arriving east of Stellwagen Bank, fishing in 240 ft of water the party landed over 60 keeper cod and haddock along with four nice size wolf fish.

All of the fish were landed on clams with the exception of a few taken on a jig during the final hour of the trip. The cod were up to 15 lbs and the haddock were nice and large producing great fillets after Curt Maxon our mate put on a show with the fillet knife.

Both parties were outstanding and have already booked future trips aboard RELENTLESS. Captain Dave and his crew (mates Jerry and Curt) want to say thanks for making a terrific spring weekend of fishing and we look forward to sailing with you in the future.
