COMBO TRIP

August 23, 2006

The crew of the RELENTLESS has been pretty busy fishing for school tuna, striped bass and blues along with groundfish. This time of year offers many opportunities with several species of fish in the area including
sharks. If you are interested in hoping aboard for a private or shared
charter please give us a call at 781-871-2113 or send us an e-mail at
Captdave@relentlesscharters.com

On Wednesday, August 23rd Captain Dave with Captain Curt as the mate fished with repeat angler Jeff Bilezikian of Watertown, MA and his
friends Chris of Boston and Peter and his two children, Lauren and
Bryan. Fishing on a beautiful day in the deep water with a fierce tide
the group managed to pull aboard several large pollock, cusk, and
redfish making it a great day overall. It did not take long after jigs
hit the bottom for rods to double over with large pollock often with
doubles on the lines. Everyone had a great day aboard going home with
plenty of fish for the freezer and the kids had a ball watching the
whales, basking sharks and catching some nice sized fish. We hope to
see them aboard again in the future and once again thanks for fishing
aboard RELENTLESS.

BASS TRIP

August 19, 2006

Repeat Customer Bill Fitzgibbons stepped aboard for a day of striped
bass and blue fishing aboard RELENTLESS on Saturday August 19th. Bill requested we go over to Provincetown to pick up is daughter and a friend visiting from Indiana. After meeting them at the public dock, we were underway and decided to give the kids a chance to see the whales up close on Stellwagen Bank while trolling some rigs for tuna. With over
30 boats out there and very few hook ups we decided to move back inshore and fish for bass and blues. Bass were no existent most of the day after talking to other charter boat captains however the blues in the
deep water drop offs made for a great day of fishing. Everyone on board did well landing several large bluefish by the end of the day. After
dropping Andy off in Provincetown, we headed across the bay to Green
Harbor and Bill was all smiles after having his three great kids out on
the water for the day. It was an awesome day even though the fishing
was a little tough.

COMBO TRIP

August 18, 2006

On Friday the crew of RELENTLESS had the Robert Kelleher party from Walpole, MA aboard for a day of groundfishing. Fishing east in the deepwater this group of anglers managed to land several large fish
having a great day on the water. Most of the days catch was large
pollock which were hitting diamond jigs dressed with a grub teaser. By
the days end they had several nice fish in the box providing them with
plenty of fillets for friends and family. Thanks guys, the crew had a
ball and we appreciate your patronage and hope to see you back again in the near future.

COMBO TRIP

August 17, 2006

On Thursday we had aboard Mark Marroni and three friends from the North Andover, MA area for a day of school tuna and striped bass fishing. Leaving the dock early and arriving on the shallow waters of Stellwagen Bank it was only a few minutes when we had fish in the spread smashing all three lines. Mark landed a nice fat fish around 42" on a pink squid bar which was quickly released so it can continue to live. After several knock downs and misses we decided to head to Race Point where the group landed several bluefish but the bass were hard to come by. The group decided to go back tuna fishing and the water was flat and we found several large schools of pushing school tuna with hundreds of fish in each. Usually when they are in this mode they will not eat. We were fortune enough to get a few to hit and lost one around 125 LBS at boat side when the captain was reaching for a gaff. The angler felt terrible and I know he took the heat all the way home but it does happen. In the photo you can see the school tuna pushing on the surface. We had a great time with Mark and look forward to seeing him aboard again in the near future.

BASS TRIP

August 12, 2006

On Saturday, August 12th, RELENTLESS took out repeat customer Mike Breault and friends from Western, MA and once again the weather was horrible. After steaming offshore and anchoring up, it was only a few minutes late we decided to head in for some striped bass fishing. The fishing was tough but the guys worked at it throughout the day going
home with only a few fish, thankfully, it only happens once in a while.
We appreciated having them on board again and look forward to seeing
them again at the end of September to try their hand at some cod and
haddock fishing.

BASS TRIP

August 11, 2006

On Friday, August 11th after attending a wedding on Nantucket Island the previous day the Jim Kubis party of Levittown, PA stepped aboard for a day of groundfishing with light NW wind predicted. The weather man forgot to tell us it would be blowing hard by morning with 15-20 knots of NW wind is what we really got. Captain Curt took the party out and the entire group agreed it would be better to go after striped bass at Race Point on this day. Landing several keeper bass and large blues on wire line, jigs and umbrella rigs, the group had a ball fighting fish
and busting on each other. I know the crew of RELENTLESS appreciated them being troopers during a kind of snotty day and it was glad to see everyone smiling as fish were coming over the rails.

NOTES FROM THE CAPTAIN

I realize I have not been updating my reports and things have been a
little slow lately but I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for
fishing with us this year. During the past few months, my father Ken,
the man who taught me how to fish and many other things in life was very
ill and passed away on June 20th. He will be missed and thought of
every day and I know I will miss spending time with him and seeing him
with a pole in his hands. Needless to say being with Dad and being around my family was my number one priority and not being aboard RELENTLESS.

Now that this storm has passed it is time to get down to business. For those who have fished with us before we have improved our seating aboard RELENTLESS by taking out the galley counter and sink and replacing it with another bench seat. We still have the counter down below to make sandwiches and the sink in the head to wash your
hands. This had really opened up the boat making it more comfortable
for everyone aboard.

New seating

New seating

We have updated our fish reports and also I would like to fill everyone
in on what is going on. The striped bass fishing is HOT, HOT, HOT
and along with catching many bass, there are good numbers of large
bluefish mixed in. Now is the time to gt into this action and we will
conduct night trips if someone wants a chance at a big cow.

Cod fishing has been a little picky but good numbers of haddock,
cusk, pollock and other species will provide anglers with good action
and plenty of fillet weight. I expect with all of the bait on Stellwagen
Bank the cod will move back into the adjacent waters feeding on them.
Don't forget, if you want to get some cod and haddock for the freezer
this fall you will have to go prior to 01 November as the new regulations will not allow us to retain cod in the Gulf of Maine from November through March. We will be attempting to get this changed but it will take time. We will also still be running our shared trips for cod if you can not get a full group together.

Tuna, both school and giants, are here now and on our first trip of
the year at 5:10 AM we had a giant slam a rig, make a run and break
off. It was exciting for about 30 seconds. There are plenty of fish
around but the giants are not eating yet and we are seeing more school
fish (less than 73") moving into the area. These provide plenty of
action on the lighter 50 class rods and reels.

Shark Fishing will be beginning soon and during the last week of
August we will be focusing on shark and cod combination trips. This is actually shark fishing east of Stellwagen Bank, and while drifting, a few anglers jig up some nice cod and haddock to take home. Most of the action will be Blue Sharks but we you will have a good chance of landing a Mako, Thresher, or Porbeagle. Take advantage of this fishery as it is a great time and lots of fun.

If you have any questions regarding a charter or have any question,
please give me a call anytime at (781) 871-2113.

COD TRIP

July 14, 2006

Captain Curt took out repeat customer J.R. Carlow from Jamestown, RI and his friends for a day of cod fishing aboard RELENTLESS. After a fall cancellation followed by a spring cancellation due to weather they finally were able to come aboard on a warm July day with calm seas. Heading out east to Stellwagen Bank and fishing with bait and clams the group managed to pull aboard an assortment of large haddock, cod, pollock and wolffish allowing these anglers by the end of the day to go home with excellent eating fillets of fresh fish.

The highlight of the day was when J.R. was dropping a crippled herring
down to the bottom his pole doubled over and the reel started to sing.
JR was hooked into a bluefin tuna and Captain Curt cleared the deck.
The Ugly Stick matched to a Torium 30 filled with 80 LB Power Pro stood up to the challenge of the fish which after a lengthy battle was brought to gaff and brought aboard RELENTLESS sending everyone home with fresh tuna for steaks and sushi.

Currently we are doing excellent with the groundfish and it looks like
the cod and haddock will be here for a while. Once again, now is the
time to book a combination trip for cod and haddock and finish the day
off with tuna, shark or striped bass. If you want to step aboard and
enjoy a great day on the water, give us a call or send us an e-mail so
we can make plans to give you the trip of your summer.

COD & HADDOCK TRIP

July 9, 2006

Repeat Customer Gerald Schaffer who is a young 87-years-old, came aboard again with his family for a day of ground fishing aboard RELENTLESS. The day started out with an incredible amount of bait on Stellwagen Bank and large groups of whales feeding on the sand eels. Making a stop just east of the bank, we managed a few fish with Derrick pulling in a nice large monk fish on a clam. The party was in awe looking at this prehistoric fish and asking if you could eat that thing. Once they were told it tastes like lobster they stated "Don't throw it back". The dogfish soon arrived so we made a move out to deeper water with more dogs and a slack tide. Picking a few haddock and small cod during the slack water we decided to move back to the west. After locating a nice pile of fish just off the bottom we decided to anchor to increase our chances.

This turned out to be a good move as the next two hours provided heavy
action mainly with jigs and some bait landing cod to 25 LBS, over 25
large pollock, several haddock and wolf fish. Derrick landed the
largest cod of the day and Richard had several pollock over 25 LBS. Rods were bent with fish hitting both the jigs and the teasers testing the
skills of these anglers as they pulled up double headers of pollock and
cod. Shelly was all smiles catching fish and watching whales come
within yards of the boat as rods were bent over. At the end of the day
coolers were full and Curt filleted all the way back to Green Harbor
providing plenty of good eating fillets of cod, haddock, wolf fish,
cusk, pollock and wolf fish for Gerry and his family to take back to
NY. It was nice to have them back again after getting blown out earlier
in the spring and we look forward to seeing them again next year.

 BASS TRIP

June 17, 2006

On Saturday June 17th, Brad Hatch of Marshfield, MA took out his son and son-in-laws on a Fathers Day weekend trip to fish for striped bass
aboard RELENTLESS. Fishing over to Race Point off of Provincetown, using both jigs and 9'R rigs the group had a great day. By the end of the day with many times having doubles on the same rig or two rods on fish this group of anglers landed several bass to 38" catching their legal limit along with plenty of bluefish. They were fun to have aboard with lots of stories and joking making the day go by quickly. I hope to see them aboard in the future because it is these types of trips that make being a charter boat captain one of the best jobs in the world.

 BASS & BLUES TRIP

June 13, 2006

The crew of RELENTLESS had a great day on the water fishing for Striped Bass and Bluefish on Tuesday, June 13th where they found an abundance of sand eels, whales and of course bass and blues. Trolling both wire line and mono the crew landed several bass up to 38" using jigs, shads and umbrella rigs. Often the fish were coming aboard two at a time on the same umbrella rig. Curt, Jerry and myself had a ball fighting this fish on one of the best weather days of the year. We were fortunate to have aboard Brian Tague (www.briantague.com) who decided to take some great shots of the action. His photography of everything from Coast Guard boats, wildlife, lighthouses and other scenes are some of the best I have ever seen.

Remember we will be starting to fish for sharks and tuna in July. You
and your party can get into some big game action fishing for mako,
porbeagle, blue and thresher sharks or land a bluefin tuna. All of which are great to do battle with.

We currently have good dates available to get in on this action and we
recommend you do it as soon as possible before water temperatures change the feeding pattern of the fish. If you would like to inquire about a
trip please contact us by either e-mail or phone.

COD TRIP

May 25, 2006

Captain Dave and the crew of the RELENTLESS has been quite busy fishing for cod and haddock and striped bass. After a long spring fighting
downpours and Northeasters we have been getting some excellent trips in with great groups of anglers. On May 25th, we had the Lenny Lefleur party from Putnam, CT aboard for a day of cod fishing. Fishing throughout the day was a little slow but codfish, haddock and wolf fish
provided great eating fillets for meals back home by the end of the day.

 COD TRIP

May 16, 2006

RELENTLESS with Captain Curt at the helm, conducted a shared charter with repeat customers Dick and Julie Tessier from Rhode Island and John and Walt Jones from New York on Friday the 16th of May. Fishing was OK at best with lots of sand eels around which should have produced an abundance of fish in the area. Listening on the VHF radio, all of the charter boats were having a tough day getting the fish to bite. The group did mange several nice haddock, a few cod and even some striped bass in the deep water. After landing the bass and taking a few photos, the fish was released as we were fishing in the EEZ where it is illegal to retain or directly fish for stripers. Hopefully this law will change
in the near future so we can take bass caught at Race Point early in the
morning offshore on the way to the cod grounds. Overall it was a great
day even though the fishing could have been better.

 COD TRIP

May 8, 2006

The Scott Bey party from Tilson, NY had a great day on board
RELENTLESS on Monday, May 8th catching market sized cod.

On Monday, May 8th the crew of the RELENTLESS had aboard the Scott Bey party of five anglers from the Tilson, NY area. Leaving the dock at 5:30 AM the seas were absolutely flat as we headed down to the south to find no bait or whales in an area which holds fish this time of year. After several moves we were finally able to get into good action landing several legal sized market cod aboard RELENTLESS with haddock and pollack in the mix. Throughout the day the the whales were breaching and bubble feeding all around the boat and put on a show providing great pictures for everyone aboard. Peter won the pool with the largest fish of the day, a nice 15 LB cod full of herring caught on a jig rigged with a teaser. The weather could not of been better and this group of anglers who work for the Department of Corrections for the State of NY were constantly joking and had a good time while going home with fillets of cod and haddock in the coolers. John inquired about other trips and was excited about the possibility of landing a school tuna later in the
season. Thanks guys for the great trip, Jerry and I hope to see you
back again later in the season.

On a side note, the weather looks like it is going down hill fast for
the week and the schedule is going to have to once again be adjusted as
an ocean storm with low pressure is moving in south of Nantucket
Island. We will do everything to meet your needs and will never
compromise your safety for a day of fishing. We have several excellent
dates available and Striped Bass are now here and feeding on mackerel
and herring.

 COD TRIP

May 7, 2006

On Sunday, May 7th, the crew of the RELENTLESS had aboard the Frank Daddio party from East Brunswick, NJ for a day of cod fishing. The weather forecast was for NW winds 10-15 knots and seas 2-4 feet. Shortly into the trip on the way out the harbor we did see a few smaller boats turning around. Running slow to the cod grounds RELENTLESS rode smooth without a pounding and after making sure everyone was comfortable we continued to Stellwagen Bank. As the day progressed the seas calmed down and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately the fish did not cooperate and many boats I spoke to had the same type of day. We were all marking fish but could not get them to bite. By the end of the day, the group had a good trip but I wish we had sent them home with a lot more fillets. I guess it is going to happen from time to time and this was not my day. I appreciated having them aboard as they were a great group who said they would be back next year.

 COD TRIP

May 6, 2006

On Saturday, May 6th the crew of the RELENTLESS had aboard repeat customer Barney Prisco from Middletown, NY for a day of Stellwagen Cod fishing with flat calm seas and sunny skies. This was a big change as Barney was blown out on his second trip last year and picked this date last fall to come back and fish again. The day could not have been better with lots of whales putting on a show feeding on the bait in the area and the group landed good numbers of legal size codfish and haddock to take home with them. We hope they come back again this year and maybe try their hand at landing a school bluefin tuna or catch a shark on stand up tackle when the water warms up. Once again Barney, it was a pleasure having you aboard for a day of fishing aboard the RELENTLESS.

 COD TRIP

May 5, 2006

On Friday May 5th, the crew of the RELENTLESS ran a shared charter with first time anglers Peter Ercolani from CT and Jeff Bilezikian from Watertown, MA. Joining them was repeat customers Wayne Wood an his two friends Jack and Carl. Finally another repeat customer from CT John Niemiera who is a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and is still talking about the Superbowl. The group fished with the crew of Curt and John who steamed out to Stellwagen Bank for a great day on the water with plenty of bait and whales in the area. The fishing was steady with lots of short fish thrown back but a decent amount of legal sized cod and haddock for the freezer by the end of the day. Shared (open boat) charters are a great way of meeting new friends and spending a day on a charter boat even if you can't get a full group together. It was great seeing everyone again and I hope we see Peter and Jeff back again for another trip one day.

 COD TRIP

April 28, 2006

On Friday April 28, Curt ran a shared charter for cod with the John Guarino party of CT, Tom Gastio from NY and Todd McMahon of Marshfield, MA. Leaving at 4:00 AM, due to minus tides and a shallow inlet, this group of anglers had a good time landing cod and haddock throughout the day. The fishing was a pick and could have been better, but once again they were entertained by dolphins, gannets and whales both humpback and finback. Unfortunately no photos were taken by the crew, but we had a great time having you aboard.

 COD TRIP

April 15, 2006

Captain Dave did not take any photos during this trip and should have.
Fishing aboard RELENTLESS was Jim Tatler who owns Arc-Tek Marine Fabrication in CT and does unbelievable work fabricating rod holders, T-Tops and towers for boaters. The day started out foggy with slow action fishing the east side of Stellwagen Bank. By the end of the day we located large balls of bait with whales and gannets diving for a meal. After dropping, all anglers were hooked into market sized cod with
doubles the norm for the next hour providing a decent amount of fillets
for the dinner table. This group of anglers were a ball and I should
have taken pictures but never did. Thanks guys, It was a blast and I
hope we can do it again soon.

The month started with repeat customer Chuck DeVuyst of Franklin, MA and his friends Joe Nolan coming aboard for the first trip of the year on 4/3. Also joining them was Frank Lightbody from Foxboro, MA who I was stationed with at Coast Guard Station Point Allerton in the early 80's. The fishing was a steady pick most of the day with the group going home with cod and haddock for the dinner table.

On 4/8 Elvin Miranda of Hartford, CT and his party came aboard for a day of fishing and landed cod, haddock and wolffish on a day which was
overcast and choppy seas. Captain Curt Maxon with Jerry Mulchahy mating took the party east of Stellwagen Bank using clams and jigs to bring fish over the rail.
