As I sit here typing out this report it is one of those New England weekends that we cannot stand. The report is for lots of wind and we still seem to be in a cool pattern with lots of rain each week. Well 2008 is shaping up to be another exciting season and the outlook appears to be very good at this time. The boats that are out fishing below the 42 degree line south of the Gulf of Maine Closure are doing very well with cod fish to 40 LBS aggressively hitting jigs and teaser combinations. I have also heard that the commercial fleets out of Gloucester and Plymouth are doing well on Stellwagen Bank, whether they are a longliner, commercial jig fisherman, gillnetter or a dragger. This means there is a large body of fish around this year, let's hope they stay. We have been actively booking charters and have filled several dates already for April and May. Our tuna fishing was red hot last year with several days limiting out early in the morning. This year we will be running an eight tuna fishing trip in addition to our customary 10-12 hour trip. These trips will still give you plenty of time trolling and jigging for school bluefin tuna. Speaking of jigging, we are going to purchase two of the Shimano Butterfly jigging rods and reels. These are lightweight and filled with Power Pro 80 LB line giving you a fight of a lifetime if the tuna get finicky and do not want to jump on the trolled squid bars. We are still filling slots for our shared trips (open boat) so you and maybe a friend or two can jump on a shared charter for cod and haddock or tuna. These are a great way of getting onto a charter boat without the hassle of putting together a private trip if you don't have a group of six friends. With all of the charters our dates are filling fast, so please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me an inquiry regarding a trip. Our tackle is top notch using Shimano Reels matched to high quality rods. We want you to have a great day on the water. I hate to close this letter out on a sad note but we had to raise our prices and are still one of the most reasonably priced charter boats around. I am hoping our rates still don't have to go up again as marine diesel fuel is now over $4.00 gallon while the boat burns much more than a diesel pick up truck. I pledge to you, I will not gouge you to take you fishing but like all businesses there is a bottom line we need to meet. Please give us a call whether you are a repeat customer or coming aboard RELENTLESS for the first time for a cod and haddock, striped bass or tuna fishing trip during the 2008 season.
